Honoring the Last
Thirteen
October 11, 2021
Post TX115 honored the last service members
killed in the final days of
Operation Freedom's Sentinel.
During the withdrawal of our troops and Afghanistan patriots,
America tragically lost 13 of our dedicated brothers and sisters to a suicide
bomb. They were tasked to helping
people enter the airport for evacuation to safer
locations. This tragic event
was felt deeply within the veteran community and the
community.
Special thanks to Terry Murray who organized the program, set
up the memorial display along with a picture and a candle for service member,
and served as the MC. The community
along with AMVETS members responded to the invitation; it was well
attended.
Our final Afghanistan Thirteen were Marines, a Soldier, a Sailor,
but to their families they are sons and daughters, brothers and sisters,
husbands and wives, greatly loved and terribly missed.
May we never
forget the sacrifices of our military and their
families.

Family Cookout and Fishing
Event
April 25, 2021
AMVETS Post TX115 hosted
a Family Cookout and Fishing Event, supplying fun for all on a beautiful
Central Texas Sunday afternoon.
From Post Commander Kerman
Hammond
I
just want to thank everyone that came out to enjoy the outdoors and to leave
Covid 19 behind for a little
while. Everyone seemed to have
a great time enjoying the fine food and side dishes as well as watching the
children try their skills at fishing.
What a great time watching the kids catch their first fish and getting
so excited. We also was fortunate
to have the Game Warden helping to teach the kids about the different fishes
and to discuss a little about the fishing rules.
We
gave away prizes totaling over $300 to the anglers as well as gave each one
their own rod and reel. In addition,
we also gave away 3 wood carvings that was made by one of our members to
the adults present.
Again,
I just want to let everyone know that I was humbled by the turn out and thankful
that everyone had a good time and want to make it an annual
event. A special thank you to
Naomie and Marlin for letting us use their property
for such a great event. Also,
thanks to Target for suppling the Gift Cards given to the
anglers. |

The sky was grey and stormy Sunday morning, but there was much sunshine

Annual Care
Package
Program
February 13, 2021
Post TX115 had a most successful annual Care Package effort this
year. Since the beginning of
the year, members and friends of the Post have donated items for packages
and made monetary gifts to help defray the cost of shipping the boxes overseas,
resulting in a new record achievement 62 boxes shipped to 21 locations
in Middle
East, African continent and
Afghanistan!
From Post Commander
Kerman Hammond:
I
want to personally thank everyone that helped pack the boxes, donated
non-perishable items, and gave money donations to help pay for the shipping
cost; it really meant a lot because without your support we cannot continue
doing such a project. We even
got financial support from the State Commanders Post to help with our effort
and also got financial support from Skip and Kay Gibbons who as members of
AMVETS has been traveling the west and will finally settle down in
Montana.
Again,
thanks to everyone, this project continues to grow every
year.
